  1. What do you know about the different Literary Periods in Philippine Literature? 

 

The 4 different Literary Periods in Philippine Literature are the Pre-Colonial Period, Spanish Colonial Period, The American Colonial Era, and the Contemporary Period. 


The 1st Philippine Literary period was Pre- Colonial Period, and during this time the epics, folk songs, narrative and sung narrative were popular. The basic elements of the literary under the Japanese Regime, the idea of nature, patriotism and nationalism, and human emotions like friendship and love. 


During the Spanish Colonial Period Era the Theater became popular, Spanish explorer attempted to teach their language to another people which their religious song and poetry found in their place in society. By the 19th century Philippine writers were using prose to their own benefit by writing about negative effects of the colonization.  


During the American Colonial Period the English was introduced to mainstream schools throughout the country, the basic elements of literary pieces under American Period included the culture and the history of USA and it used the basic form literature like plot, themes and images. 


Military rule in the 1960s, the Contemporary Period emerged. Prose, poetry and short stories remain popular but writing is the more professional and more competitive throughout their country. The changes in Literature during the 21st century was the influence of modernism, hyper reality and rationalist concept, and breaking the old traditional and reflecting human lives in writing. 


 

  1. What are the essential elements of the literary pieces under different periods of the Philippine Literature? 

 

These elements are influenced by social economic and religious conditions of the time period that where the text written. Setting, theme, structure, point of view, and diction, are all certain elements that found in all literary text.  


 

Allegory, allusion, antagonist, characterization, climax, conflict, connotation, crisis, diction, exposition, flashback, imagery, irony, metaphor, motif, mood, plot, point of view, protagonist, resolution, setting, structure, subplot, suspense, symbolism, theme, tone, are component part of the work of literary.
