1. What do you know about the different Literary Periods in Philippine
Literature?

To honestly answer the question, since I did not know about the different literary periods in Philippine literature, I did some research to at least have a piece of knowledge about it. Based on my recent study, the literary period is a time span of literature that shares intellectual, linguistic, religious, and artistic influences, in other words, the environment or traditions written by a group of authors. Philippine literature has five major literary traditions which are a part of the country's evolving history, Native, Islamic, Spanish, American, and Nationalist. Additionally, I also learned that these literary traditions belong to these three historical periods of Philippine history, Pre-Colonial, Colonial, and Post-Colonial.

In the first literary period of the Philippines literature or pre-colonial era, literary work was crude on ideology and phraseology and based on oral traditions. The popularity of folk songs, narrative songs, epics, and folk tales took place.

In the Colonial era or the Spanish and American colonial period, the Spanish explorers tried to educate their language to indigenous people, such as spiritual songs and poetry discovered in the society. While even American literary effects affected Philippine literature, together with the advent of loose verse poetry and the popularity of short storytelling and romantic novels.

Postcolonial literature included a period of literature characterized by experiments in new languages, especially the forms and images provided by English and American literature. 2. What are the essential elements of the literary pieces under different periods of Philippine literature?

The different periods of Philippine literature include some essential elements of the literary pieces, setting, theme, structure, point of view, and diction. The setting in literature specifies when and where the action will take place. The theme conveys a central idea or lesson about life. The structure is how the author arranges the storyline. The point-of-view is related to who they work was conveyed. Diction is a word chosen by the author to imply social or suggestive meaning. These elements refer to the components that give essence to a literary work.
