1. What do you know about the different Literary Periods in Philippine Literature?
There are six literary period in the Philippines and those are Pre-colonial-period, Spanish Colonization period, Propaganda and Revolutionary period, American colonial period, Japanese occupation and contemporary or modern period. Pre-colonial period are described as and are said to be based on oral traditions, ideology and phraseology. During the Spanish Colonization period, ALIBATA or the first Filipino alphabet was changed into the Roman Alphabet. Propaganda and revolutionary period presented propaganda literature such as editorials, satires to expose how cruel the Spaniards rules were during the time. News reporting, poetry, novels or any writings that symbolizes patriotism and willingness to achieve freedom were written by Filipino writers during the American colonial period. When the Japanese conquered the Philippines they halted most production of news articles that was in English. Lastly, writings in Tagalog were brought back during the contemporary/modern period and most writings were themed of how brutal the Japanese were.
2. What are the essentials elements of the literary pieces under different period of Philippine literature?
All elements were influenced by what’s the status of living and religious conditions during the different periods in the Philippines, the elements includes the setting, theme, structure, point of view and diction.
